A package s ProtectionLevel property encrypts package definition information that resides in the underlying XML file. You set the ProtectionLevel property at the package level when you are editing the package in BIDS. This means that you define what should be encrypted and how it should be encrypted for the entire package. You can also set a PackagePassword property, which you use when the ProtectionLevel requires encrypting metadata in the package with a password. Figure 4-4 highlights the relevant security properties of the package. By default, the package is set to use the ProtectionLevel EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey. This means that if you create a package with the default ProtectionLevel and your package contains sensitive information (such as a connection with a password), the connections that contain the password will be encrypted and viewable only by you, the package author, if the package is opened in BIDS on the computer on which it was developed. In this case, you can open the package and will not have to retype the connection passwords; other users can open the package, but they will have to know the connection passwords to test the package in BIDS. Out of the box, the only package properties marked as sensitive are connections with user names and passwords; however, if you write a custom task, component, or connection manager, you can specify which properties are sensitive. Table 4-2 summarizes the available package ProtectionLevel options.

Correct Answers: A, B, and D A. Correct: The calling router is a VPN client and has a user account. This account is treated exactly the same as any other user account in an Active Directory domain. If the account is inactive for any reason, the connection will not be made. B. Correct: By default, 128 PPTP ports and 128 L2TP ports are (typically) installed on a router running Windows Server 2003. More can be added. If an insufficient number of ports is created, all ports could have been in use by remote access or VPN clients when the connection attempt was made. C. Incorrect: This solution would not prevent connection. It would prevent data transfer. D. Correct: Day and time restrictions for a number of remote access clients or VPN clients are normally implemented through access policies. However, for a client such as a calling router, configuring user account logon hours is a valid technique.

This examination domain requires that you know how to maintain and troubleshoot your network You need to know how to monitor the health of your network and ensure that it can cope with the bandwidth requirements specified by the network design plan You need to know when a network is operating normally, and how to produce a baseline showing normal traffic patterns You need to know how to capture network traffic statistics, and how to compare these statistics with your baseline data in order to troubleshoot network faults and track trends You need to be able to use such tools as Network Monitor, System Monitor, and Event Viewer, and to analyze the data captured by these tools You need to know how to generate logs and the performance counters that can be included in these logs In this domain, the network interface object is of particular interest.

You will need to have SQL Server installed before you can complete this exercise. Refer to the Introduction for setup instructions.

You need to know what such counters as Current Bandwidth, Output Queue Length, Bytes Total/sec, and Packets/sec measure You need to know the acceptable value ranges for the commonly used Network Interface counters The domain requires that you know how to troubleshoot Internet connectivity prob lems The examination is mostly concerned with user-side problems that is, why your network has lost connectivity Therefore, you are unlikely to get a lot of questions on supplier-side problems that is, why your Internet Information Services (IIS) server is not working properly The final domain objective covers troubleshooting services on a server running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 You need to know the effects of a service not starting at reboot, and the faults that would cause this problem You need to know what prob lems service dependencies can cause, and which services depend on which other services.

Sensitive information is not saved in the package at all. Each time the package is reopened in BIDS, the connection passwords must be reentered. For package execution, the password needs to be stored in a package configuration or passed to the package through the command-line setting. This is the recommended setting if you are exclusively using Windows Authentication for your connections. The entire package is encrypted with a password that is set in the PackagePassword property. To open the package in BIDS, you need to enter the correct package password, and the package cannot be executed without passing the password to the package at execution.

You need to know how to stop, start, pause, and restart a service, and what to do next if a service does not start..

The skills that you need to successfully master the Maintaining a Network Infrastruc ture objective domain on the Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure exam include the following:
